Library Staff Training The Information Literacy Project is offering a round of NEW free half-day workshops that will address the PRACTICAL issues of implementing information literacy in one's library. These workshops build upon principles and concepts explored in the Information Literacy Project workshops held in Autumn 2001 and Winter 2002. Workshop participants will learn successful strategies and techniques for incorporating information literacy into on-the-job interactions with their library users. If you attended one of the information literacy workshops conducted earlier, or your own research and work have provided you with an introduction to the principles and concepts surrounding information literacy, then you are invited to attend one of the new, next-level information literacy workshops to be held in October and November 2002. These workshops will provide participants with practical solutions for addressing the information literacy needs of their communities. They are intended to provide library staff in all areas of service from all types of libraries--public, school, academic, special--with resources for taking a variety of roles in supporting community learning. Participants will come to the workshop prepared to share ideas and current programs from their own libraries. The workshop will introduce participants to a variety of ways in which information literacy may be incorporated into their daily work. They will have access to a number of resources useful both for their own continuing education and for the development of their information literacy programming. Using one of their patron groups as a focus for workshop activities, participants will review the definition and core concepts of information literacy; articulate how information literacy will benefit their community; explore a variety of information literacy strategies; and design at least one change in current personal or institutional practice that will promote information literacy among both staff and patrons. Trainers and participants will have the opportunity after they leave the workshop to continue the discussions started in the workshop through a Web site and electronic discussion list sponsored by the Washington State Library's Information Literacy Project. Workshop Schedule Thursday, October 17, 2002. 1-5pm, Spokane Public Library, Shadle branch Friday, October 18, 2002. 9am-1pm.
